About the Vasota Fort Trek
The fort was constructed by Kolhapur Shilahara Raja Bhoj II during Bhoj dynasty but it was seized by Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahraj.
He himself chose to call the place “Vvagrahgad” which literally meant Tiger and he intended the brave tigers to be habituated in their natural environment. Also, he desired the fort to become the arena of defence. Vasota fort has played a major role in the Indian National Movement under the guidance of supremely strong Maratha warrior Bajirao Peshwa. British government, in order to defeat Marathas, attacked on the fort and destroyed it completely
Vasota Fort (also called Vyaghragad) is located in Satara district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Shivaji Maharaj named the fort “Vyaghragad” (Vyaghra – means tiger), owing to its difficult natural defense. After Shivaji Maharaj, the brave Maratha Bajirao Peshwa carried on the Swarajya mission of ousting the Mughal invaders from our country. In 1818 however, British bombarded the fort with heavy artillery thereby destroying many buildings.
Later in the modern times, Vasota fort turned out to be the jungle trek which is immensely loved by trekkers of Pune. A massive number of trekkers undertake this stimulating trek
