How to Reach Triund
Firstly you need to go to McLeod Ganj to reach Triund. This town is connected by air and road. Gaggal Airport is the closest airport, nearly 18 km away from the McLeod Ganj. You will begin your trek to Triund from McLeod Ganj and it will take nearly 4-5 hours to reach the peak.
Short Itinerary
You will need to start your trek as soon as possible. The morning hours of your trek to ascend faces the sun and the sunrays in the hills can be extremely harsh in the afternoon.
There is a government primary school at Dharamkot, where you need to find a water tank. Beside the water tank, you will find a path that ascends through the woods.
You will need to climb along this path for nearly thirty minutes to reach the Galu temple clearing. Below the temple, you will find a small tea stall.
From here, one path goes to the south-west direction into the woods to Naddi village. You will find another woods path north-west to the river that goes up from Laka. The main path to Triund goes straight after the temple.
Tip: You can also book a cab from McLeod Ganj directly to Gallu Devi shrine. After reaching the shrine, you will easily observe the trekking path with the woods checkpoint. But you will need to show your ID proof and they will record your details in their register.
People at the checkpost will also check your backpack for the plastic content you carry and will check again when you return. Ensure that you trek responsibly and carry your plastic back.
The path is a gently ascending, through thick oak woods and crosses the steep portion of the Laka ridge. After moving ahead, the path becomes deep gully that crosses a steep part and emerges on a stony spur.
From here, you will witness the main Dhauladhar range with the pyramidal mountains of Mun that appear bigger.
This entire peak is the best for birdwatchers, because these woods are residence to different types of songbirds.

After traversing through rhododendrons trees, you will reach to the Triund ridge. Before entering the Kangra valley, it is an open, grassy mountain that spans quite a distance to the south.
You will find multiple places to camp out here. Even you could get some supplies from the nearby tea stalls. Water is limited and is accessible to one kilometre before Triund. You should carry your water supply with you.
Throughout the trekking season, you will find multiple dhabas at Triund from where you can receive refreshments and cooked meals.
Rather than purchasing packaged food items, you should pack your meal from Dharamkot and it will be fresh. You can rest overnight at the woods’ rest house, but you need to make bookings in advance.
You will find reasonable accommodation here that will cost you nearly Rs. 600-800 per room. You can also get tents on rent at Triund (approximateky Rs.600 for a 2-man tent, along with sleeping bags). Remember that on active weekends, like public holidays, you will find it hard to get tented accommodation.
On day 2, you should wake up early to enjoy the breathtaking views of the sunrise from behind the ridges. It’s a mesmerizing view because the sun rays light up beautiful Kangra valley.
If you don’t have much time, you can also finish this trek in one day and return to Dharamkot. But, then you will not enjoy the exquisite views of the morning and evening sky from Triund.
Climb down and retrace your paths. It won’t take much time to climb down. It is a short day so better you enjoy the descend and take rest at the cafes on the way.
However, if you have extra time, you can climb up further to Lahesh cave through Laka from Triund. Lahesh cave is considered the base camp for the ascend to Indrahar pass (with altitude of 14,250 ft.).
You will find a striking tea house at Laka, however you will need to bring your own provisions if you decide on going ahead.
After having breakfast, you should begin to climb down from Triund. You will reach McLeod Ganj and finish your trek.
