All about the Har Ki Dun Trek
A high altitude trek, Rupin pass showcases an outstanding surrounding which consists of the dense forests, green landscapes and other nature’s offerings in abundance. This adventurous expedition begins from Dhaula in Uttarakhand and ends at Sangla in Himachal Pradesh. You will be crossing the state border near Kinnaur to enter Himachal.
You will get a magical experience, as the greener landscapes start to turn into snow patches followed by the vast snow fields while heading towards Rupin Pass. The trek will also become difficult and challenging with every step you take. Keep yourself hydrated at all times.
You will be delighted to experience the local culture of two different states at a time, indulging yourself with the people and knowing about them. This kind of raw interaction gives you an ample opportunity to grow yourself as a traveller. This place is filled with plethora of spots to see and admire like bridges, waterfalls, streams, habitations, forests, religious sites and towering peaks.
While leaving for the Rupin Pass, you will cross Pokhu Devta temple which is a recognized shrine here and worshiped by the people of these hills. This trek has been rated as moderate to difficult, so you need to be fit enough and well prepared to cover the path. Slippery trail, hard snow and steep climb are part of the trek. However, you will be rewarded with the beautiful view of the mighty Himalayas and the extravagance of nature.
HOW TO REACH
You need to travel from Dehradun to your base camp Dhaula, which is a small village in Uttarakhand. A drive of approximately 10-11 hours through the hilly roads will take you there. Try to reach on time to begin your journey.

On the first day of trek, after your arrival to Dehradun, a pick up will be arranged that will take you to the base camp Dhaula. This drive will take about 10-11 hours, so you can sit peacefully and enjoy the charm of nature.
NOTE: Transport from Dehradun is arranged by us at an additional cost.
After reaching Dhaula, take proper rest in your tents arranged at the campsite so that you can start afresh the next day. On the way to Dhaula, you will witness captivating sceneries of river flowing through the Himalayan ranges, amazing meadows and other pleasant sights.

After a fresh start in the morning, you will leave for Sewa on Day 2. A 9 kms trail will take you to Sewa which is your next camping site. This is an easy trek with level tracks and as you proceed ahead, you will find Rupin river flowing behind. The path towards Sewa has apple and apricot trees scattered which is truly a mesmerising view. Enjoy the awesome weather, with delicious snacks along with tea, taking a halt at mid point. Visit the famous Kinnaur temple Sewa after which you can end your day relaxing at the campsite.

This part of the trek is quite difficult and risky, so our trainers accompanying you will brief you and instruct you about the nature of this trail. You need to do some warm-up before beginning the trek. Parts of this trek are prone to landslides and also your endurance will be tested as the terrain varies frequently. You will come across a bridge during descent that roughly marks the border between Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. After another 15 mins of descent, you’ll reach a riverside at Haldi Khad. From the other side of this river, your journey will take a turn as the path begins to rise till you reach Gosangu. As you pass the different trails from here, narrow tracks will be visible. You will continue your trekking from Jiskun village to reach Jhaka which is at a height of about 8,700 ft and is an hour’s trek.

This village is the last village of Rupin Pass trek. Spend some time here relaxing and admiring the fascinating surroundings which is full of nature’s blessings. As you move forward, the nature will unfold its beauty as you come across several small rivers and changing landscapes that will make your journey even more engaging.
As you leave Jhaka, the path you cover will have snow scattered on it. There is a bridge covered in snow that you need to cross the Rupin river. After a trek of few kilometres, you will reach your final stop of the day, Saruwas Thatch. Spend the night here before beginning for the next phase of the trek.

A 5 kms trek from Saruwas Thatch to Dhanderas thatch will take approximately 4 hours of journey when you can experience adventure amidst the extremely rough paths, gorgeous waterfalls, snow bridges etc. There are many different kind of trails that you will pass, some through the dense forests, some climbing down a valley, meadows, snow bridge and wooden bridge. After crossing the various terrains, you will finally reach Dhanderas where you camp for the rest of the day.

Have your breakfast and start climbing to the top of a waterfall to adjust yourself to this environment as it is very important to adjust to the surroundings before proceeding further. This will also test your potential of trekking on snow using ice axe, trekking pole and you would know how to slide on snow. These techniques would help you when you will cross a vast snow bridge. It is an outstanding experience watching the Rupin river flowing from high above through a waterfall. After reaching the top of the waterfall, there is a meadow which will be your campsite for the day.
10 kms Trek
10-11 hours of Trekking

Day 7 is the longest and the most challenging segment of this entire trek. A steep climb will take you towards the Rati Pheri Campsite.
NOTE: Refill your bottles at the Rati Pheri campsite as water sources are limited here.
There is a vast stretch of snow at this site which makes it impossible to follow any track. You will be trekking through the snow field to reach Rupin Pass gully. It will be the most fascinating thing to do, but, a lot of precaution needs to be taken as slips and slides are quite common here. Also, you need to be careful with the direction as there are good chances of ending up somewhere else because of less to no visibility of the path.

We almost never cancel our treks. But in case we cancel a trek because of Lockdown, Natural calamities (snowstorms, thunderstorms, floods, landslides, earthquakes, bad weather) or unexpected political unrest, terrorism activity, curfews, local riots, or government orders, Trekkers Of India issues a voucher for the full amount of your trek fee paid to us or Alternate Trek will be arranged. You can redeem the Trek Voucher on any of our treks over the next one year or even extend it in case of emergency. NO CASH REFUND would be made.
What If Trekker is on Trek & It is not completed due to natural calamities (snowstorms, thunderstorms, floods, landslides, earthquakes, bad weather) or unexpected political unrest, terrorism activity, curfews, local riots, or government orders?
There would be NO REFUND in this case.

Or if your Trek Leader/Guide sends you back down to base due to a safety or health issue. At Trekkers Of India we feel bad when such things happen and we understand the feelings of Trekker.
But wait! Trekkers Of India will not let you go back with sad face! We have a feature/policy in which you can “COME BACK & TREK AGAIN” that means you can come back & do SAME TREK again. And Hey! you don’t need to pay Trekkers Of India money for the same. Happy now ?
How to apply for same? Simply email us at support@trekkersofindia.in, Our support team will send you a Refcode (Which is not a Trek Voucher Code). Next year when you are ready to do Same trek again, you can simply mail us at bookings@trekkersofindia.in with Refcode and batch date our team will help you confirming your slot.
