Itinerary

Altitude: 4652 ft to 7506 ft
Drive Distance: 100 km, 2-3 hours
Trek distance: 5.2 km, 5-6 hours,

You will leave Dehradun and head towards Panthwari village which is a 100 km journey and takes about 4 hours. You will go through Mussoorie, Kempty falls, cross Yamuna Bridge, and towards Nainbagh.

From the main market of Nainbagh, you will take a route going up on your right side and from there, you will reach Panthwari town. It is your base camp to start the trek.
There are three ways to reach Nag Tibba. One way through Panthwari village is the considered the shortest path, and have an overall distance of eight km to reach Tibba Summit.

But, you will not finish the trek today itself. You will stop at Khatian, which is at 4.5 km distance from Panthwari. You will see a cemented path that goes from the middle of village marketplace. You will notice a welcome gate when the path goes up.
A few minutes after, you will see a Nag Devta temple. From this place, the path curves towards the left, plus the cemented path is now substituted with a stony shepherds’ trail.

Altitude: 7506 ft to 9,915 ft to 4652 ft
Distance: 9.3 km
Duration: 5-6 hours

You will have to wake up early today because it will be a very long day with plenty of walking to do. You will discover a way towards the right that directly go into the woods. Most of the routes is in a densely forested area.

The routes from here are properly defined. But, during the months of January-February, snow makes it hard to recognize the path.

There are two short open patches on field on this two km route and you will cross them in nearly 20-35 minutes.

It will take nearly 45 minutes to one hour to reach Nag Tibba Base. Those paths are mostly a slow walk and have a small area of steep ascent for ten minutes. Nag Tibba Base is a huge clearing and there is a temple of the Serpent God.

You will see scenery of the Garhwal Mountain through the woods. In winter season, you will also see plenty of snow here. The final one kilometre is a steep ascend that go into the woods with no or rarely any sunlight.

Since there is no sunlight, the snow is intact here. A professional guide will be very useful for you in such conditions. Now, there are four steep ascends while hiking into the woods.

This hiking will be tough because of the snow.

The snow makes the climb more challenging and it will take nearly 1 hr 15 minutes to reach the top. The top is straight up and you don’t need to go right or left. When you reach the peak, you will notice that the route re-appear and curve to a ridge on your left.

After walking for a minute, you will notice an open patch of field sloping downwards on the opposite side of the peak,

Search a flag on the uppermost point called summit, or Nag Tibba “Jhandi”. On your left side slope from the peak, you can enjoy a mesmerizing view of the Himalayan peaks of Gangotri, Srikanta, Kala Nag, Bandarpoonch, and Swargrohini.

The entire area looks magnificently covered in snow, which make it a real winter weekend trek. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the peak for some time and then start your descent. Now, you will return to Nag Tibba Base.

Alternate route: If snow is not there, you can take the path which goes down to Bhatwadi. This trail is in your right and goes straight to the woods. After 45 minutes of climb down on this way, you begin to move along a river. The river goes down to Bhatwadi town.
You will descend on this trail for an hour and then you will reach to a clearing known as Moriana. The river gushes on one side all over the place and there are some shepherds’ sheds on the other side. This location is enclosed by woods and make for a striking place for photography. From Moriana, the treks descend into the woods again.
You need to keep moving along the stream. It’s approximately 1.5 hours, the woods cover will end here and you will see the farm. Within ten minutes, you will reach the Forest Department gate. From here, you will see Bhatwadi village and it will take another 45 minutes to arrive there.
Keep walking on the main path and ignore the smaller routes which disappear inside the village. This path reached the entryway for the Bhatwadi village route and spots the end of the trek. Panthwari is at the distance of 8 kilometer from Bhatwadi. In winter season, where there is a significant snow on the route, return to Panthwari.
