The trek starts from a Sankri village situated in the Uttarkashi district. Twenty kilometers is the overall trekking distance that normally takes six days.

The road takes you through quaint valleys, charming meadows, and dense forests. When you climb to higher altitudes, you will see the alteration of the scenery into a winter wonderland wrapped in pristine white snow.

The peak of Kedarkantha Mountain stands at 3,850 meters ((12,631 feet), an altitude that gives an overwhelming 360-degree view of the neighboring valleys and peaks. Most summit climb starts during the early hours before or during Sunrise to let you see a fascinating sunrise over the snow-capped mountains.

Best Time to Do Kedarkantha Trek?

  • By Train: Dehradun Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Sankri village, which is well-connected to many cities across India. You can take a local bus or cab from Dehradun station to Sankri.
  • By Air: Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airport to Sankri. It is also considered the best place to embark on the Kedarkantha trek from Delhi. You can take a cab or taxi from this airport to Sankri. 
  • By Road: Sankri village is also connected by road, and daily bus operators run from leading cities like Delhi and Dehradun. You can also prefer driving alone or hiring a private taxi to reach Sankri.

Embark on an extraordinary expedition from Dehradun, the Kedarkantha winter trek. To ensure a smooth start, all trekkers must arrive before 6 am. By 06:30 am, the enthralling journey to Sankri village will begin.
The distance between Dehradun and Sankri is approximately 220 km, and the journey will take around 10 hours. The route along National Highway 123 offers a picturesque drive, unveiling enchanting valleys and dense forests.
Around 22 km before reaching Sankri, the serene Himalayas and lush greenery will captivate your senses. Govind National Park, renowned for its unique flora found exclusively in this region, will also grace your path.

Distance: 8 kms trek
Time Taken: 7-8 hours

On the second day, the trek to Juda Ka Talab at an altitude of 9,100 feet will commence. The trek covers approximately 5 km, taking around 5 hours, depending on the trekkers' capabilities.

Embrace an array of thrilling experiences on the trail, overcoming ice and slush with the assistance of TrekupIndia's expert guides. The journey begins amidst a beautiful pine and maple forest, gradually ascending alongside wildlife and pastures. Along the way, quaint huts amidst verdant fields will delight your sight.

As you ascend, a grand lake awaits on your left, while the right side hosts thick pine and oak forests, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The lake's temperature differs, providing lukewarm waters around it, whereas the rest stays cold. During winter, the water becomes a charming sheet of ice, a view to observe.

The lake also accommodates a natural passageway that caters as a water source for the locals. The trek persists across bridges, and you might see the mysterious Himalayan Langur, famous for its introverted nature.

You may also discover the sights of martens, hares, and boars in this area. Juda Ka Talab, situated in the opaque oak and pine forest, greets you with its wonderful beauty. The night waits for you with a wholesome and warm dinner, giving you a chance to delight in the lap of Mother Nature.

Wake up early to enjoy the breathtaking Sunrise, an awe-inspiring spectacle view that will amaze you. On day 3, you will start trekking to Kedarkantha Base, located at 11,250 feet altitude. Your trek to Kedarkantha Base from Juda Ka Talab covers nearly 6 kms, taking about 7-8 hours at a slower pace. 
The splendid and delightful lake Jadu Ka Talab, covered by pine trees, provides fun-filled activities and frozen winter adventures for trekkers.
As you climb up further, the trek becomes steeper, plus your trek guide will give you instructions to go through snow slopes. Listen to your guide carefully and follow each instruction, including the advised size of your footsteps.
Again, the trek reveals amidst the opaque forests of oak and pine trees, traversing vertical ridges. After reaching 10,400 feet altitude, you will explore traces of snow that will give you a breathtaking view of nature's magnificence.
Get ready to be fascinated when the trip to the base camp unfolds surprising arc-shaped ranges decorated in snow, including the Ranglana, Kala Nag, Swargarohini, and majestic Bandarpoonch. These peaks stand tall and smugly.
At the peak, you will also find a small temple dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, with a holy place for Lord Ganesh. After arriving at the peak, you can catch your breath and soak in the fascinating beauty of nature.

Time Taken: 4-5 hours
Highlights: Har ki Dun Valley, Pine and Oak Forests, Serene Sunrise

Prepare for an exciting and challenging day as you reach the majestic Kedar Kantha Peak. This Kedarkantha trek distance covers a 6 km, elevating you from 11,250 feet to 12,500 feet, and takes approximately 7 hours. Be ready for a steep ascent that demands your utmost preparation.

During the trek, marvel at nature's vibrant colors and behold the majestic vistas of the Rupin range. When you reach Kedarkantha peak, you can enjoy the views to Kalanaag, Bandarpooch, Yamunotri, Swargarohini, and Gangotri.

Upon reaching the summit, the awe-inspiring vistas of nature will evoke a range of emotions and leave you spellbound. Descending Hargaon Camp or Juda Ka Talab Camp (whichever camp we have pitched) is also part of the day's itinerary, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the valleys and nature while spending the night at the campsite.

Day 5 marks the descent from Hargaon Camp or Juda Ka Talab Camp (whichever camp we have pitched) to Sankri, covering a distance of 6 km. Descending from 8900 to 6400 feet, the journey will take approximately 4 hours or longer if you maintain a moderate speed.

As you bid farewell to the regal Himalayas and snow-capped mountain ranges, your path leads back to Sankri. The trek is relatively straightforward as the distance is short. Sankri serves as the base village for several other treks, including Bali Pass and Borasu Pass. In the morning, you will be greeted by a stunning sunrise amidst the pine trees at Hargaon camp.

After breakfast, pack your belongings and follow the marked paved pathway to Sankri.

On day 6, it's time to return to Dehradun from Sankri, covering a distance of 220 km. The journey will take approximately 10 hours, so depart Sankri early in the morning to ensure you reach Dehradun by evening.

By 7 - 8 pm, you will arrive in Dehradun, so make the necessary arrangements for your onward journey to your hometown.

As you drive back to Dehradun, cherish the memories you have created during this remarkable expedition through the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas and the unforgettable experiences that will stay with you forever.

Advance Amount is Non Refundable 

  • Cancellation made 25 days before the trek- 90% cash refund or Get 100% of the trek fee in a Trekkers Of India Trek Voucher.
  • Cancellation made between 24 days and 15 days before the trek- 70% cash refund or Get 80% of the trek fee in a Trekkers Of India Trek Voucher.
  • Cancellation made between 14 days and 10 days before the trek- 50% cash refund or Get 70% of the trek fee in a Trekkers Of India Trek Voucher.
  • Cancellation made between 9 days and 1 day before the trek– No Refund, 10% Trek Voucher
  • If the Cancellation is made on the Starting day of the trek or there is no Show on the start day of trek, there will be No Refund, No Voucher.
  • Trek Voucher is Issued when Full Amount is Paid to book the trek.
  • No refund is applicable on cancellation if Advance Amount is Paid to Book the Trek/Trip.
  • Refunds will be made within 7-14 working days from the date of cancellation.
  • In case of refund, 3% payment processing charges must be applied.
  • In case of refund, 5% GST is NON REFUNDABLE.
  • If your Booking says ” NON REFUNDABLE “ No Refund or Trek Voucher will be issued.

In the rare event that we cancel a trek, this is the policy we follow:

We almost never cancel our treks. But in case we cancel a trek because of Lockdown, Natural calamities (snowstorms, thunderstorms, floods, landslides, earthquakes, bad weather) or unexpected political unrest, terrorism activity, curfews, local riots, or government orders, Trekkers Of India issues a voucher for the full amount of your trek fee paid to us or Alternate Trek will be arranged. You can redeem the Trek Voucher on any of our treks over the next one year or even extend it in case of emergency. NO CASH REFUND would be made.

What If Trekker is on Trek & It is not completed due to natural calamities (snowstorms, thunderstorms, floods, landslides, earthquakes, bad weather) or unexpected political unrest, terrorism activity, curfews, local riots, or government orders?

There would be NO REFUND in this case.

As a Trekker, there are times when you have to let go of a Trek in mid of the Trek Journey. You can fall ill or get hit by AMS or at times simply fatigue pulls you down or there may be other reasons as well such as Snowstorms, thunderstorms, floods, landslides, earthquakes or unexpected political unrest, bad weather, curfews, local riots, or government orders?. Or if your Trek Leader/Guide sends you back down to base due to a safety or health issue. At Trekkers Of India we feel bad when such things happen and we understand the feelings of Trekker.

But wait! Trekkers Of India will not let you go back with sad face! We have a feature/policy in which you can “COME BACK & TREK AGAIN” that means you can come back & do SAME TREK again. And Hey! you don’t need to pay Trekkers Of India money for the same. Happy now  ?

How to apply for same? Simply email us at support@trekkersofindia.in, Our support team will send you a Refcode (Which is not a Trek Voucher Code). Next year when you are ready to do Same trek again, you can simply mail us at bookings@trekkersofindia.in with Refcode and batch date our team will help you confirming your slot.

What is a Trekkers Of India Trek Voucher?

Trek Voucher is a credit amount which gets added to you Trekkers Of India account. You can redeem trek voucher by booking any Fixed Departure Trek with Trekkers Of India in future. Every Trek voucher comes with one year validity.

IMPORTANT: Trekkers Of India Trek Vouchers are non transferrable, non refundable to others. Only Trekker who has received it can redeem it. For example, If you have booked for five person you can either avail one Trek voucher of xyz amount or five trek vouchers will be issued on Trekker’s name.
