Lo and behold!
It is slowly descending, the temperature outdoors and the enthusiasm indoors. It is falling down, and in order to regain the lost zeal, we are offering you a splendid trek to some of the top listed treks. A small scream of excitement may just have escaped your mouth muffled in the blanket that covers you from head to toe. Glaciers are shrunken and frozen. A cold wind, full of adventures, is knocking at your door.
Who would just say No to it?
The opulent, magnificent fortitude of Sikkim is adorned with the breathtakingly exquisite zenith of Goechala trek, with a picturesque view of colossal Kanchenjunga peak, and is allured with auspicious Goecha lake, which has an out of the ordinary tear shaped arrangement.
Who would like not to watch sixteen awe-inspiring peaks from Dzongri top?
In between the chaos the plains and the serendipity of the mountains ahead, we have been accomplishing our dream to conquer the fairy tales. The meadows, sheeps, and pristine white waters add ethereal charm to the beauty of the hills.
Nature does not rush into things, it takes time, and it gives you proficiency to achieve some difficult hiking goals. The artistry the trek offers, the elegance nature owes, and the blossoming beauty our eyes capture throughout the venture, are worth giving a thought.
About the Trek
Because of the unconquerable magnetism, Goechala trek is the most chosen trek of all that makes a pathway from Darjeeling, heading towards Sikkim, enthralling trekkers with spine-tingling memories.
Best time for conducting the trek-
Best time - April to June & September to October.
During Summer, temperature varies from -1C to 22C
During Winters, temperature varies from - 5C to -15C
The Goechala trek begins from the New Jalpaiguri railway station. It is basically around 8-9hours long drive from the railway station to Yuksom, and it covers 150kms approximately. We will start our journey early in the morning, as soon as you reach the New JalpaiGuri. While travelling from New JalpaiGuri to Yuksom, two major official works need to be done. The local police station based in Melli, majorly concentrates on the identity of the trekkers. It is important for the safety and security of the trekkers and to avoid any kind of mishaps. Three passport sizes are needed to be affixed in the form. Foreign citizens require ILP or Inner Line Permit to take permission for further journey, and they need to take a special permit from Gangtok. We will help in getting all the permits to keep you away from mystification.
Foreigners need to reach Yuksom a day before to get all the formalities done.
Jorsang is the last stoppage where you can collect all the things required for the trek. Adequate numbers of shops are available. The last ATM for dispensing money is in Legship.
Yuksom being an old capital of Sikkim, is rich in culture, customs, traditions and heritage, thus, making it a popular tourist attraction. On reaching Yuksom, trekkers would be given proper instructions for the trek starting from the next day.
Please Note: Citizens of China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh are not permitted to trek in Sikkim.
Situated at around 7000ft, and about 8kms aways,Sachen takes around 6 hours to reach. Sometimes it is not preferred to move towards to Tsokha on the same day, as it I can too exhaustive for the trekker to endure.
A trekker must carry lunch packets, enough water and basic necessities as there are no shops on the way, and phone network is not available.
Walking through the fringes of dense forests, and beautifully decorated by Mother Nature, the place is served by the villagers around and making the Himalayas a beautiful place to live in.
One can have an inclination towards the nature but it becomes a habit once you go into the lap of Himalayas.
Moving from villages to the steeping stones, and the rest of the trail through dense forests with pine, oak, Bamboo trees, are remarkably attractive.
Sunlight sneaks in through the trees but soon it fades, making it difficult for the trekkers to see, but exciting too.
Then we pass through River Rathong, far ahead in the valley, and yaks and mules are continuously in the sight. Suddenly, there is significant elevation in the altitude, before we enter the second iron bridge after trekking for an hour over MentogangKhola River.
Third and the last iron bridge marks as the conquest of the height of 7100 feet, and it takes another 20 minutes to trek to the campsite.
The tiring day followed by the next trek, calls for an early sleep.
It takes around 7 km and 7 hours to reach to the Tsokha at 9600 feet via Bakhim which is located at 8600 feet. As the elevation starts becoming steep, hiking becomes harder followed by dense forests towards Bakhim and you can beautifully figure out magnolias and rhododendrons nearby. As soon as we touch the holy water of river Perk, the ambiance it offers is pious.
Prayer flags marks the beginning of Goechala track. On the way one can also find the glittering beauty of mount Pandim and mount Tenzing. temperature start getting lower and the first destination of the day Bakhim will be reached then and after a small halt, the trek continues towards Tsokha descents and ascents for another 11 kilometres
The day four of Goechala trek is intended for a vigorous trek to Dzongri route Phedang. There is steep climb, and one may stumble so one has to be cautious.
But Rhododendron forests enclosing the path, is a treat to our eyes.
The forests pave a way for the trekkers and aid in showing the right direction to them. And we reach Pedant after trekking for few more kilometers. Phedang is about 12000 ft and calls for a lunch for trekkers who are famished.
And Phedang is a brilliant location to relax and have lunch with the amusing beauty of nature.
After relaxing & rejuvenating, the trek continues for Dzongri.
The place also suggests some prayers for the hikers to wait and worship to the flags. Altitude sickness, severe headache and loss of oxygen can be common.
But the walks through the stiff meadows are a heart wrenching experience. After reaching about 12,980 feet, campsites are arranged.
Sleep is important as a trekker has to start afresh, the very next day.
This day is meant for boundless exploration, around the places around. Small walks at the top of Dzongri at 13,675 feet, gives a new meaning to life.
The well known peaks to view are Kanchenjunga (8534 m), Kabru (7353 m) and Mount Pandim (6691 m) ,Koktang (6147 m) and Narsing (5825 m), and other peaks like Frey Peak, Kumbakarana, Jupono, Simro.
Photography is not prohibited. So what are you waiting for?
Take your cameras out, and start clicking!
Memories and pictures stay for life.
Ever imagined to sit at a mountain top and witness a delightful sunrise in the early morning?
Here’s your chance.
Sunrises are lovely to watch at Dzongri top, and hence trekking further at 12,900 feet towards Thansing, after crossing Kokcharang at 12000 feet. Blossoming meadows in abundance, and rhondoderon forests are verdantly met in the pathway.
We keep moving ahead towards Prekchu River, where tents are set up for the travelers. The river flows steadily and melodiously to its destination, and giving us an idea of the passage ahead.
To ease trekkers from fatigue, and to prevent the drainage of energy, today is considered as the easiest day of all.
We leave at 10 am, and walk for around 2-3 hours towards the Lamuney, which is at around 13, 650 feet appox.
Lamuney turns out to be comparatively moderate than the other days.
Blooming rhondoderons are spread around, and meadows are everywhere.
Magnificent Samiti lake welcomes all the travelers from across the world, and embraces them gracefully with all her heart.
Travelers feel home around the lake, but due to strict rules, campsites cannot be fixed around Samiti.
But rule books do not say No to photos.
Come on! Capture the captivating beauty before it gets late.
Mesmerized by the conversations with the lovely lake, we turn back towards our stay.
Campsites are organized and the day is called off a little early today.
The total distance to be covered is about 16 kms, and it can be covered in 7 hours. The trek includes Thansing at 12,900 ft to Tsokha at 9700 ft. Beginning as early as possible, say 7 am in the morning, and must end at 3-4 pm. From Phedang being the first destination to crossing Dzongri, we go through a diverse range of trails. From flat to steep, to difficult to easy, going back is a roller coaster ride. Mount Pandim embraces all the trekkers with happiness and pleasant weather. Watching clouds from a considerable distance is so much fun, And looking at the sky makes us realise that everything changes. Even the sad times.
Trek is all about self contemplating, and comparing your life with what you had, and what you have now.
It is advised to take rest in Phedang for a while, and leaving for Tshoka after some time. The distance is not more than 5 kms, and after reaching Tshoka, one must sleep early.
Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.
A long trail awaits for the next day.
The world’s small, and you must end up where you started from. It is the rule. Long walks of 15 kms, near about 7 hours, located at 5,670 feet. The day commences early morning, and one must be aware to the belongings he’s carrying, a bucket of memories are added too. Hillock climbs fall in the way and the trail crosses across Bakhim and Sachen. Today is the day when the network in mobile phones finally returns, and all the loved ones from family and friends can be reconnected!! Woops! Time to bombard the social media with your lovely pictures, depicting your natural smile.
Don’t forget to send them on your family groups! They’ll love what you’ve achieved.
Yuksom interlinks the trekkers with the outer world, and serves as the connecting like between mountains and valleys.
You have plenty of time to escape in Yuksom for a fixed time, and buy something to take back for your people. Blessings from the religious Buddhist monasteries, and small presents from nearby shops can work.
Time to say bye!
Goodbyes are never easy, are they?
Your bucket list just completed a milestone, and it’s time to go back. Pack your bags early in the morning, take care of your belongings.
Close your eyes, feel the difference in you, and love the emotions you’re going through.
